Poisonwood BibleAlmost everything I've read by this author has been enjoyable, or thought-provoking, or both. She creates vivid memorable characters (especially the four daughters in The Poisonwood Bible), and her ability to write evocatively about the American Southwest is remarkable. Here's my list of favorites:

The Poisonwood Bible
Bean Trees
Animal Dreams
Homeland

The one book I'm having a hard time getting into is Prodigal Summer. Anyone have any feelings one way or the other about this book?

I had a hard time getting into Prodigal Summer at first, but because I love her books, I gave it some extra time. Once I figured out I was reading parallel stories that would, I suspected intersect it raised my curiosity enough to keep at it. I was glad I stuck with it.

It has been a couple of years since I read either book but both are unforgettable. Poisonwood especially. I will say that one of the funniest passages ever is in Prodigal, the bit about the snapping turtle. I did not find her writing to be preachy.

I read Bean Trees and loved it! Then I recently tried to read Poisonwood Bible and couldn't read more than a few pages. Are some easier to read first? Maybe I should work up to PB...
