Farewell is my favorite, but I also For Whom the Bell Tolls, as well as The Old Man. Bottom line: You can't really have a solid background in American literature with some Hemingway.

Ernest Hemingway was a brilliant author. His novel A Farewell to Arms is the first love story that I have ever read and actually enjoyed. His novella The Old Man and the Sea is brilliant!!! Hemingway was certainly deserving of the Nobel Prize.
