"Rashi’s Daughters Book 3: Rachel" by Maggie Anton
[A Novel of Love and the Talmud in Medieval France]

The dramatic final book in the epic historical trilogy about the lives and loves of the three daughters of the great Talmud scholar Rashi. Publication date: August 26, 2009.

Rachel is the youngest and by far the most beautiful daughter of medieval Jewish scholar, Salomon ben Isaac, or “Rashi.” Her father’s favorite and adored by her new husband, Eliezer, Rachel’s life looks to be one filled with peaceful scholarship, laughter, and love. But events beyond her control will soon threaten everything she holds dear as the marauders of the First Crusade massacre nearly the entire Jewish population of Germany, and her beloved father suffers a stroke. Eliezer wants their family to move to the safety of Spain, but Rachel is determined to stay in France and help her family save the Troyes yeshiva, the only remnant of the great centers of Jewish learning in Europe. As she did so effectively in Joheved and Miriam, Maggie Anton vividly brings to life the world of eleventh-century France and a remarkable Jewish woman of dignity, passion, beauty, and strength.

What If Napoleon Bonaparte Side With America ?
By Pierre-Michael Combaluzier, FINS
Many historians consider Napoleon Bonaparte as one of the most astonishing rulers who ever lived. His strong leadership and effective strategies brought France to a near domination of Europe . Aside from having a winning record of battles, Napoleon is also remembered for establishing the Napoleonic Code, which influenced the law systems of many other countries. In paying tribute to the historical leader, author Pierre Michel Combaluzier invites readers to take part in a fictional portrayal of the life and times of Napoleon with the release of his compelling new book Napoleon Rising . The text examines what would have happened had Napoleon survived and reached the United States on Christmas Eve of 1820. The story begins when the strongman is rescued from exile by French expatriates and the American government, which is working secretly against the British. As such, Napoleon uses his political connections and family to work with the Americans on a common cause. How much impact would Napoleon make on America 's political scene and global standing? Read the book to find out. With its very unique plot and detailed look at both European and American history, Napoleon Rising is bound to not just entertain curious readers but also spark a new wave of debates concerning history and politics. It brings to life an alternative analysis of history like no other book and readers will be captivated by the author's style of storytelling.

The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett. I read the first volume, The Game of Kings, when I drove the bookmobile in Annapolis, MD while I was a college student in the 1960s. Read the next two after graduation, and then life got very busy, and I lost track waiting for vol. 4. This winter, I re-read the first three, and went on to the remaining 3. Could not put them down. I bought used copies to keep and will read them all again. Dunnett's writing is almost poetry in its descriptive beauty. Lots of real historical figures & events throughout her books along with great action and romance. I aso found her book about Macbeth, titled King Hereafter, a wonderful experience, and will soon begin her second series, The House of Nicolo.
