I am really new to this site. To be honest, I largely joined to get some feedback on a website the we created to help people find that next book to read.
The website catalogs over 100,000 books and 125,000 reading lists and allows users to display and print out a list of 100 books related to any book. So, if you’ve just finished a good book, enter it into our search field and the site will display books connected to that book.
But, I am worried that just posting a link to the site breaks the Book Lust and Wet Paint anti-spam policy... But I really would like some feedback from other avid readers on how well the site does at recommending other books to read.
So, is this an OK thing to post here or is somewhere else more appropriate?

I recently joined my first book club and just started reading next month's selection. However, I'm struggling with the best approach to reading the book, taking notes, and remembering important points. Does anyone have suggestions? Are there tools available to help readers be more efficient? Currently I am highlighting important passages and jotting down notes on a pad of paper, but I'm wondering if there is a better way. I'm sure it varies by reader, but I am just curious what other people are doing.
Thanks for your help!

I usually read the book twice. Once through to know where the story/plot is going. Then the second time through is to note the points I want to remember. I find that if I take notes on the first time through I often waste time writing things that aren't important and/or miss things that end up being of interest to me. Most importantly, I don't do anything that diminishes the pleasure of reading. I've been in a variety of book clubs, and usually the book serves as a jumping off point for many interesting conversations about our own life experiences. So don't stress out, enjoy.....

RE: page turner--another Captain Cook story
By: ,
Jul 11 2008, 9:08 AM EDT
In "Blue Lattudes: Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before," Tony Horwitz (author of "Confederates in the Attic") relives Cook's journeys. Literally, taking a sail on an Endeavor , a replica of Cook's vessel, and traveling by plane, train, auto and foot to the places Cook touched. Following the path of Cook's four sea journeys, Horwitz searches for the real "Cook" as he explores the lingering impact of Western European culture on the many indigenous populations and cultures Cook came into contact with. Traveling with his long time friend Roger, a carousing Austrialian (think BIll Bryson's hiking campanion in "A Walk in the Woods"), Horwitz keeps this well researched work humorous and delightful!

What an interesting way to get people interested in reading! Book trailers are like movie trailers, but for books! You can find them all over the internet now, but here is a site that's featuring them on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/booktrailers

What a difficult question?
Is not what we read, let alone write a personal thing? Though we write to convey a message, a feeling, a thought, an experience which we ourselves comprehend. To another reading that same ink we laid, the story, the feeling, experiences which they read are their own, shaped by a life so far lived with numerous individual lessons learnt.
What is romance, passion, beauty for one, in not the same for all or even the next person.
For me, it is only the truth that is told which I enjoy.

I was blown away by The Glass Castle. How Jeanette Walls managed to relate the horrible life she experienced as a child and still compel her reader to stick with it is a mystery in itself.. I'd like to hear more about this woman, year by year.

I am a latecomer to Pottermania, having read the first book soon after it came out, and letting the rest go by. As a librarian involved with Harry Potter Night this weekend, I needed to catch up so I took all the books home and did so. They were great reads, especially back to back to back......

You seem to know a lot about books so, do you know how one goes about breaking into this industry? My relation wrote this book and she self published it only now she really can't garner any attention for it. We'd hate to see her fade from the book world existence, any suggestions?

I would like to start sending one of my children a signed first edition children's book each month. Can anyone recommend a book shop or a way I can do this. I do it with adult fiction and other genres, but I can;t seem to find a store that has enough signings of children's books to do this. Thanks - Neil

Under the book clubs section, it states that if anyone is interested in starting a book club on this website than the Book Lust folks who run the site would like to know. I have some ideas about this, but I am wondering how I am supposed to let them know.
Also, is anyone doing this already?
My thoughts on a Book Lust Book Club:
It should probably be divided up by subject/interest. To be honest there are a million and one books out there, and I'm not interested in all of them. I'm not keen on romances, for example.
Let me know what you think, folks.
