Favorite Books - General
Jun 28 2007, 7:39 PM EDT | Post edited: Jun 28 2007, 7:39 PM EDT
I can never pick 'a' favorite of anything (favorite food, favorite color, favorite animal). I don't usually finish books that I don't enjoy - unless it was an assignment for a class. If I'm reading it right now, and can't wait to get on the bus home so I can read again, then that book is my favorite d'jour. Right now, it's "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. Before that, it was Amy Tan's "Saving Fish From Drowning". What will it be next week?

How about some of Orhan Pamuk's novels for next week? He is such a brilliant craftsman.

agree with ytrainer - particularly Orhan Pamuk's "Snow".... although fiction it is a very acurate portrayal of Turkish politics during the 50's...(I am a dual citizen of US and Turkey)....also, would like to suggest my recently published novel, Voice of Conscience by Behcet Kaya 2  out of 2 found this valuable. I was quite taken by the eloquence of Pamuk's Istanbul and am now reading My Name is Red. I'm delighted with the humour in it, but also the way Pamuk is able to address significant issues by means of this humour.

I would like to know more about Behcet Kaya. To Mr. Kaya, send me a short biography if you will. I look forward to reading your work at some point soon!
